Friends, I treated myself to an Advent calendar this year. I’ve never bought one before, but when Facebook served me an ad for this one, I nearly fainted from swooning over it.
It’s the Kinda Kawaii Bookshop Advent Calendar. When I saw it, I checked it out, saw the price, and clicked away. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I even mentioned it in a comment on Engie’s blog, and she said that she thought I should just go ahead and order it…so I did! I mean, who am I to ignore Engie’s advice? And what good advice it was, because I’m in love with the book shop Advent calendar!
When I open the front, look what’s inside – 23 little drawers that I can open each day with a tiny something inside. (The theme is stationery, but I don’t know what is in the drawers.) There are book titles on each drawer. The final day is in the attic.
I’m guessing that the book titles are hints of what’s inside.
I haven’t felt this excited about Christmas in a long, long time! Even so, I’m pleased that the bookshop isn’t decorated in a Christmas theme because I can use it all year long. Here’s the back of the bookshop.

I really should get an advent calendar for myself this year. I’m trying to really lean into the festive spirit and I think an advent calendar would feel especially whimsical. It has been…two decades since I had one?
Elisabeth, you should definitely get one for yourself to add a bit of daily cheer to your December! I will report what’s in the drawers, but I don’t think I can do it daily…this NaBloPoMo thing has worn me out!

I did not get an advent calendar but we have a little wooden house-shaped one that I put m&ms in for the boys. And their grandma got them a chocolate one from Trader Joe’s that they are very excited about. They each got their own.
Lisa, a reusable Advent sounds like a good way to go, and your wooden house one sounds adorable! And then they each get their own chocolate one from Grandma! They’ll have fun counting the December days!

I bought a wooden Christmas tree shaped advent thing a few years ago, then couldn’t figure out what to do with it so I sent it to my sister who couldn’t figure out what to do with it and then we sold it at a yard sale! Both of us are seriously infected with Too-Much-Stuffitis, probably contracted from cleaning out her MIL’s house and my cleaning out our mom’s house.
Sigh. It is so appealing, so I will enjoy yours vicariously.

This is DELIGHTFUL. I hope you post about what you find inside, because I am so curious! I usually buy an Advent calendar for my kid, and once in awhile for my husband. A couple of years, we got the No Exit “escape room” game Advent calendar to play as a family, which was fun.

I’m not ready for Thanksgiving, let alone Christmas!
What a year!
But more to the point, I Adore Advent Calendars and have purchased a few over the decades. A couple years ago I bought one which was a tiny jar of jelly or jam each day….! But it was too much! I couldn’t keep up…. even sharing! And some of the recipes were rather extreme… (overkill?)
But True advent calendars… like from my childhood with just a picture behind a little door, all set in a larger seasonal picture… well I have a few of those I pull out every year! My favorite is a French Townhouse (it looks like a dollhouse!!!) and it opens like a book to show all the interior rooms with holiday activities in each one, even the attic… (where an artist in her studio is painting Santa!… ) And the doors are in each room revealing the same room only with some seasonal changes…. it is very very sweet and clever! (I forget the illustrator -shame on me!) So Advent calendars are definitely a temptation for me!
I really hope your tiny drawers reveal tiny wonders and I love that you can keep it up all year long! And big bonus that it is a Little House!!! Have fun!!!

I never bought myself an advent calendar. Besides the chocolate ones I dont think I ever owned a store bought one. My mom always gifts ma calendar. She has never never stopped. I was thinking of telling her not to get me one this year but now that I see yours I feel like I want one too.
