Hi Friends! I have decided to take a break from my blog. How long of a break? At least a month – maybe more. We shall see!
The main reason is that my poor eye can only take a limited amount of focused usage, and one thing that causes a lot of eye strain is writing a blog post. I spend way too long on each post! Writing, editing, re-reading, second guessing what I’ve written, and re-writing all use up my “eye energy!” I want to take a break and “focus” on other things in my life. (Pun alert!)
I will keep reading your blogs with the help of Speechify, which I love. I’ll keep commenting too.
I plan to keep posting sporadically on Instagram. I know many of you aren’t on Instagram, and that’s OK. If you are on there, I’m @mgdoodlestudio.
I will see you around on your blogs!

I hope your break is restorative and I look forward to seeing you on Instagram and whenever you are ready to return to blogging!
Thank you, Suzanne! I really appreciate it!
You know I understand this! Take care of yourself, my friend, and I look forward to seeing you on Instagram. 😘❤️
Thank you, Kari! I appreciate your kindness and understanding! Yes, I will see you on IG!
Take care of yourself, friend. We’ll all be here when you get back (I am speaking from experience ;))
Thank you, San! It’s good for us bloggers to take a break once in a while.
Totally understand, and although I’ll miss you here, I will see you on IG! YOU CANNOT ESCAPE ME! Lol! Take care of yourself, my friend. Wait, you ARE taking care of yourself, that’s why you’re taking a blog break. I don’t know what I’m saying. Anyway, I hope you have a lovely break and I will look forward to seeing all your posts on IG. xoxoxo
Nicole, I would never try to escape you! Ha! Ha! Yes, I will see you on IG! And on your blog!
Enjoy your well deserved break Michelle!!
Thank you, Daria!
I’m all in favor of taking blog breaks, but I am sorry that eye strain is the reason. It takes me forever to write a post as well.
We will miss you and we’ll be here when you’re back!
Thank you, Birchie! I love how you write, so your efforts are very worthwhile and appreciated!
Take care, Michelle and I’ll see you on Instagram!
Thank you, Dulcie! I just mailed a postcard to you!
Enjoy your time away from eye strain! I bet it helps a lot to limit the screen time! I hope getting the time back will inspire you to delightful new creative joys!
Thank you, Jodi! I do think the time away will help me reflect on what truly brings me joy creatively, as well as helping with my eye strain issues.
Less screen time is always a good idea. I’ll see you on IG. ❤️
Thank you, Maria! I’m with you that less screen time is a good idea. I love how you inspire me on IG!
Regardless of what space you are/aren’t inhabiting online, I know you’ll end up bringing me a lot of joy. You’re a delight in my life, Michelle. And this 100% sounds like the right decision for numerous reasons. Hugs <3
Thank you, Elisabeth! I appreciate your support and we’ll definitely be keeping in touch through your blog and Patreon!
Dear Michelle, I echo the sentiments of all the others. If you need a rest, it is wonderful to acknowledge that and give your self the time you need! I will think of you, and apologize in advance for my blurry dark and poorly lit photos (a reality hazard in my house) in my blog posts! 🙁 It is something I need to get better at… lighting my photos well at the time I am taking them… (a hap-hazard thing at best!) I am not an IG person, so will not see you there, but enjoy that level of participation in social media however is best for you! I love the picture you shared… Gnome at door to Gnomeland…. wander wisely and be good to yourself! :):)
Thank you, Betsy! Your blog photos are just fine and there’s no need to worry. I love seeing your miniature projects, and I can zoom in to get the full effect. I have a laid back approach to Instagram these days, which has made it more fun, but I really don’t post very often. I enjoy seeing what people are making, and there are some fun miniaturists on there. As well as sewists and artists. It can feel like being hit over the head by mountains of cuteness, so I limit my time there.
Thank you for letting your readers know, Michelle. I hate it when bloggers just go silent. I fully understand about spending so much time writing. Working on my blog posts is an endless project, and I love doing it. This makes me very thankful that I am able to spend screen time this way.
Rest up! I wonder if there are eye-strengthening exercises you can do.
Are you still riding your Peleton?
And thank you so much for your visits to my blog—it is a thrill to see your name in my comments, and a privilege to have you among my tens of readers.
Is that photo looking out your front door?? If so, then WOW.
Jana, your blog is a delight to read. I am still riding my Peloton, and I love it. As for my eye strain, it’s a whole situation caused by ocular melanoma and its treatment, which left me blind in one eye. Such a bummer, but I’m carrying on the best I can. That photo is not the view from my door. That would be something! It’s a photo I got royalty free from Unsplash.com.
I hate that you have this vision challenge to deal with. It is just not fair. Take all the time you need and feel no pressure to keep up with my blog! And I really mean that!
Thank you, Lisa! I appreciate your kindness and compassion. ♥️
I hope the break helps!!!
Thank you, Kim! ♥️
Is this eye issue a matter of healing, or just a break? Meaning, will the issue improve long term with this break? Or is this something you will need to do periodically going forward? Either way, I’m glad you’re doing what needs to be done.
Thank you, J! My eye is permanetly damaged, so I’m thinking that after this break, I could just post once or twice a month. I was trying to post once a week, which doesn’t even sound like a lot compared to other bloggers, but it’s still too much for me. I love writing about my dollhouse and crafty projects, so I don’t plan to quit blogging – I’m taking a good break, and then going at a much slower pace.
Breaks are necessary and good you can admit your ned one. I am sorry however that your eye is a reason you have to.
Hope you have some restorative time, enough eye energy to be creative and some eye saving things to enjoy.
Of course I’ll be here when you return and I am spending too much time on instagram with weird stuff so I am hoping your post pops into my feed.
Thank you, Tobia!
I will miss your posts but I totally understand why you need the break! I hope it helps. <3
Thank you, Stephany!
Oh, Michelle, I’m so sorry about your eye. It must be a difficult adjustment. Taking a break is a good thing. Take care of yourself!
You’re not the only one who takes an aeon to write a blog post. It takes me an eternity most of the time because I am just plain fussy. It’s a wonder I get anything written and published, and I’m retired!
Thank you, Nance! We all get our rough things to deal with, don’t we? I’m enjoying my break and have been using my “eye energy” for sewing!
