Photo Doodles

It’s hard to write a post about photo doodles after hearing about the horrible shooting in Minneapolis. I’m feeling really sad, and I’m guessing you are too.

I’ve often read that silly, cheerful art is most important when times are rough. If this offers you even a brief smile, I’ll be happy.

One of my favorite little indulgences is doodling on photos. I love to grab a random royalty-free photo from Unsplash.com and doodle on it using the Procreate app on my iPad.

Other times, I enjoy doodling on photos that I took myself.

Sending you love, strength, and hope.

  1. Michelle, you bring so much light to this dark world! Everything you do makes me happy and lifts my spirits. So…thank you! The news is so heavy (evergreen comment) and seeing your art just brings a big smile to my face. That flower is exactly what I pictured myself growing up to become (I think I told you the story, when I was like three I thought that “growing up” was a species free-for-all, but then was devastated that FLOWERS DIE IN THE FALL and I would miss Christmas, and it was a whole thing, and I think my parents wondered what they did to be saddled with this sobbing child who couldn’t be a flower. Anyway, that pink flower is exactly how I pictured my adult self.) Of COURSE I love the gnome, but I also really love the brooms! Hard working brooms! They deserve to have fun and smile too.

    1. Nicole, thank you so much for your kind words. ❤️ I really appreciate you, and you always brighten my day. It’s so sweet that you wanted to be a flower…and you really are one in human form!

  2. These are all so cheery and I love them all but my favorite is the boat in the puddle! The brooms and the octopus are great too. Yes, things are kind of bleak right now but thank you for sharing your creativity to bring some joy to our day.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Dulcie. You always know how to brighten my day.

    1. Thank you so much, Suzanne! You also bring so much joy into the world with your blogs, and your kind comments. ❤️

  3. I’m so grateful for you, this blog, and everything you create. It feels so mean and scary in our country right now, doesn’t it? I know it isn’t that way everywhere, but it feels like it a lot. That’s why I’m so grateful to go on Instagram and see these happy pictures in my feed. People have a lot to say about bad things, but don’t always talk about the good. I hope you know how much goodness you bring into the world. 🌞💜

    1. Thank you so much, Kari! Your kind words mean so much to me, and you also put so much joy and caring into the world. ❤️ I appreciate you!

  4. I love checking out all the ways you let your creative juices flow. The cherry tomatoes with faces is my fav, but there are so many fun images. I really like the landscape rock in the photo you took – giving an intimate object life is so crafty. Thanks for sharing. (I didn’t even know you could draw on photos – I mean, of course you can. It’s 2026).

  5. Wow, how fun, now I want to do this too. 🙂 Love the little boat on the puddle of water, it’s so cute!

    rip ms good

  6. Michelle! These are so delightful! I love them so much! I think the brooms might be my favorite, too! I love them all, though. Thanks for being a jolt of joy in our lives which feel so heavy right now.

    1. Thank you so much, Lisa! ❤️ You also put so much joy into the world and into my life!

  7. Dear Michelle, Your “doodles” are AWESOME! they literally transform an ordinary image into a living, imaginative story! I LOVE them! The one with the sailboat in the puddle takes the cake, but the basketful of cherry tomatoes smiling up at me is a close second! They are all just Wonderful! Thank you ! And don’t let anything stop you from sharing them! :):):)

    1. Betsy, you are so kind, and this comment warmed my heart! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️

  8. New follower here! ♡ This is so creative! I have the procreate app but I’ve only used it for Youtube thumbnails and maybe coloring some pages I find on Pinterest. I might try this, although I’m only a professional at stickpeople LOL.

    1. Hi Alondra! Thanks for stopping by! I hope you do dry drawing on photos in Procreate, and if you do, I’d love to see what you make!

  9. What a great way to shine a light into what can, at times, be a dark and cruel world. Thank you for the boost, it’s a joy to see your work, and happy silly things like this are adorable. Thank you for sharing. 💜
