I just self-published another children’s book! It’s called The Cows Got Out, and it’s a gentle, simple story about some cows getting out of their pasture into the town park.
I live on the Goggins Family Ranch, which was started by my late father-in-law, Bob Goggins. The story is loosely based on true events, inspired by and in memory of this great rancher I loved and admired.
I drew black-and-white cartoon-style illustrations to enhance the story. We don’t raise dairy cows on the ranch, but the black and white spotted cows were so much fun to draw. I enjoyed giving them different spots and facial expressions. Rather than trying to draw “our cows” and “our ranch,” I kept things simple and universal. Our ranch served as inspiration, but it’s not a biography.
Self-publishing is a lot of fun. I love having complete control over every aspect: writing, illustrating, layout, and deadline. I’m thankful that several family members are good at editing and were willing to help with that aspect. And I’m thankful for my husband, who is generous with his help, support, and encouragement.
The book is a 6 X 9-inch paperback available at Amazon in paperback or Kindle formats.
