A few weeks ago, I got a griddle. I’ve never had one before, and I’m wondering how I’ve lived my entire adult life so far without one. It must have magical powers because everything I cook on it tastes amazing! I’ve made French toast, fried eggs, sausage patties, and hashbrowns, but my favorite thing to make is pancakes.
Every time I make pancakes, I have to chant the song “Hotcakes” by Carly Simon.
“Sssssss” says spittle on the griddle
as you drop that batter into that hot butter
Round and brown
Piping hot, like as not,
what we got is hotcakes
Hubba, Hubba, Hubba,
Puffing up fluffy and sweet
Now wait
And now flip it!
The song then goes into a rousing jam of instruments, complete with a tuba.
Here’s the song if you’ve never heard it:
Of course, I had to make a tiny batch of pancakes for my poor, neglected dollhouse critters! They were starting to think I’d abandoned them! If you love dollhouse stuff, you should check out Betsy’s blog post about the eclipse at About My Dollhouses. It’s beyond adorable!
Do you have a griddle, and if so, what do you make on it?
Do you say pancakes, hotcakes, or something else? (I say pancakes.)
I hope you have a lovely week!
I love pancakes, but French toast is my absolute favorite sweet griddle breakfast item! I could eat a whole loaf of bread if you let me! I love your little doll house hotcakes; those are the cutest! My Dad, even now, always makes mickey mouse shaped pancakes when he cooks breakfast, and even though I am an adult, it is always very fun to eat them! (ears first BTW)
French toast is so good too! Mickey Mouse shaped pancaked sound like fun and I’m making those tomorrow!
Isn’t a griddle life-changing?? I started using one many years ago after making my pancakes in a pan, which is nearly impossible to do. I felt like a chef! I made the most perfectly round pancakes going forward.
I love the teensy weensy pancakes! So adorable. You’re so creative, my friend.
Yes, life-changing! I’d only used pans, and you’re right, it’s nearly impossible. There’s something to be said for having the right tools for the job! Thank you for your kind compliment, Kari!
Awwww…. Michelle!!! This is so awesome! Yes to pancakes (always pancakes) and real maple syrup… nirvana! And thanks so much for the shout out! I had fun making the mini eclipse glasses… and wouldn’t want anybody to miss the opportunity to see it. But your REAL pancakes are just the perfect start to any day… mini or big! I once made the “real” wedding cake for my dollhouse wedding event…. way back in 2012…. took months to make everything… but the cake had to be edible so I went for real. LOL! (I am not a cake maker in general but I had to give it a try). Your scenes with the pancakes are just wonderful! I love your mini dollhouse “beings” bunnies, gnomes, chicks….. they are all so sweet and cheerful and lovable! That is what makes for real dollhouse happiness! (When my boys were little I built them a scrapwood dollhouse and we filled it with toy superheros and bears and any mini creature that came along.) Stay happy and well! :):):)
Thank you, Betsy! Oh wow, your dollhouse wedding cake sounds amazing! It was so fun to get back to my dollhouse and just play. I need that!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
PANCAKES AT THE DOLLHOUSE!!!!!
I can’t even bring myself to be coherent, this is just too adorable – look at them all, look at the gnome, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I don’t have a griddle, I used to make pancakes for the boys in an electric frying pan. I haven’t done that for a long time though!
Nicole, your sweet comment made my day! I love that you’re as enthusiastic about dollhouses and miniatures as I am! 😊❤️ (And gnomes!)
So sweet, not making a pun btw. Growing up my mother had a griddle for her stove and made *pancakes* often opting to make what she called “silver dollar” ones. Little pancakes 2-3″ wide that meant we got to eat more pancakes, or that’s how my little girl brain figured it.
Ally, I love the idea of silver dollar pancakes, and I totally understand the reasoning behind the little girl brain’s thinking! In fact, I might still think the same way – two smaller things seem like more than one bigger thing! 😂
I had a griddle when family lived at home, but when we downsized it was one of the kitchen things that was donated. They make great pancakes and it’s nice to have one so family can all sit down together to enjoy the meal.
Judy, I’m sure that whoever got your griddle was delighted, and it’s nice to imagine all the pancakes they’re making! The griddle I got is quite old, and I’ll bet they don’t make them like this any more!
Ohhh… I was not aware that hotcakes and pancakes were the same thing. It’s always fun to learn random thing without going out to learn new things.
So are these miniature pancakes real? How do you even make those. *Mindblow*
Tobia, yes, the mini pancakes were real! Making them that small was a bit difficult, and I ended up with many “rejects”, which I ate! 😂 When I was done with the dollhouse photoshoot, I gave the little pancakes to the dog. I was going to take a picture, but he snarfed them up before I could even push the shutter button!
This is two of my favourite things: talk about pancakes (love, love, love, pancakes) and adorable miniature things.
Elisabeth, yes, two of my favorite things as well! 😁❤️
How talented you are, Michelle! Life really is better with pancakes! Thank you for bringing happiness into people’s lives with your creations ❤️
Thank you for such a sweet comment, Daria! ❤️You brightened my day!
